2010 Nebraska Beef Ambassador Contest
DATE CHANGE
The Nebraska Beef Ambassador Program provides an opportunity
for youth to become spokespersons and future leaders for the beef industry. The
Nebraska Beef Ambassador Contest will be held June 3, 2010 in North Platte at the River's Edge Country Club. Entry deadline is May 15, 2010. The Senior
contest will begin at 1:00 PM. Juniors
& Intermediates will begin at 2:00 pm. There will be three divisions:
Junior Division
Contestants must be 8-11 years of age by January 1, 2010 and
must present a 2-4 minute speech highlighting the importance of the beef
industry and beef as an agricultural product.
Cash awards will be presented to the top three places. 1st Place, $75.00; 2nd Place, $50.00; 3rd
Place, $25.00
Intermediate Division
Contestants must be 12-15 years of age by January 1, 2010
and must present a 3-5 minute speech highlighting the importance of the beef
industry and beef as an agricultural product.
Cash awards are presented to the top three places. 1st Place, $200.00; 2nd Place, $100.00; 3rd
Place, $50.00
Senior Division
Contestants must be 16-19 years of age by January 1,
2010. The Senior Division will consist
of three parts: consumer promotion,
media interview and issues response. The
Senior Division winner will serve Nebraska as the Nebraska Beef Ambassador for
2010-2011 as well as participate in the National Beef Ambassador Contest in
Rapid City, SD. For more information on the National Beef Ambassador

Consumer Promotion -- Each contestant is required to
carry out a mock in-store beef demonstration. They will be given informational
materials on the day of the contest as well as clear instructions on how to
carry out the demo. They will be judged on how well they interact with “store
customers” and how well they represent a positive image for beef.
Media Interview
-- The contestants will participate in a mock media interview. The contestants should be well-versed in all
areas of beef production and the beef industry relating to consumers. Special attention should be paid to all
current industry issues.
Issues Response
– Contestants will receive a
recently published negative news article regarding the beef industry. They will then write a brief (150 words or
less) response to the article.
Cash awards are presented to the top three places. They will receive ½ of the cash award at the
contest and the rest upon fulfillment of requirements. 1st Place, $500.00; 2nd Place, $300.00; 3rd Place,
$200.00. The winner will also receive an
all expense paid trip to the National Beef Ambassador Contest (travel expenses,
motel room, registration and state trading items).
